 Chilled Distribution

Fairfax Meadow offer a national delivery service to virtually all areas of the UK using a dedicated fleet of more than 65 dual temperature commercial vehicles ranging in size from 44 tonne articulated lorries down to 3.5 tonne vans, covering in excess of than 3 million miles annually and operating out of seven regional distribution centres.

All vehicles are built to Fairfax Meadow's exacting standards and are regularly replaced on a rolling programme that sees no vehicle exceeds five years in service and equates to an average fleet age of only around 2.5 years.  This ensures the fleet regularly takes advantage of new technology and new ideas as they come onto the market and remains one of the most modern fleets in our industry.

Every fleet vehicle has a dual temperature specification allowing us to carry both chilled and frozen products which, when combined with specified moveable, stowable bulkheads, gives us the greatest possible flexibility when carrying varying types of loads.  All fleet vehicles also use Transcan temperature printers to enable our drivers to both monitor temperatures in transit and offer a temperature printout upon delivery should this be required.

Hands-free mobile phones are fitted as standard when built and this enables our drivers to be in contact with their base throughout the working day.  The company is currently looking to trial satellite navigation as a further aid to both driver and management.

Recognising that a modern vehicle fleet is an essential tool in our business, Fairfax Meadow have developed an ongoing partnership with Fraikin Truck Hire since 1997 to develop and maintain our fleet to meet today's exacting demands on vehicles on the UK roads and to anticipate and meet both existing and forthcoming legislation.

Fairfax Meadow drivers are acknowledged as the daily link between our company and our customers and the company has an enviable record of driver retention, with many drivers having been with the company in excess of 5, 10 even 20 years.

All drivers are given a thorough induction in food hygiene and manual handling, put through a training programme upon recruitment and equipped with full company uniform that meets all current Health & Safety legislation.

The company has sought in to be proactive in training and reducing accident levels and since 1999 has participated in the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) National Safe Driving Scheme award.  This has seen Fairfax Meadow reduce accident levels by over 60% with Safe Driving Awards made annually to drivers achieving accident-free driving years.  At the close of 2004, 12% of our drivers were rewarded for having 5+ years accident free driving during the five years the scheme has been running.
