The foodservice and catering butchery sectors have been as badly hit as any other area in thecurrent recession and worse hit than some. Companies operating in the foodservicesector that specialise mainly in meat supply have suffered a doublewhammy, as people are Wenslys worldtightening their belts and eating out less, and a shortage of red meat saw prices rocket last year, leading to many restaurants to review their menu offerings. Many have taken one of three routes: they have either cut portion sizes offered, reduced the amount of meat on the menu or, in the worst-case scenario, taken meat off the menu completely. Many restaurants in the middle market have closed.

New Vehicles for Kentish Town

Fairfax Meadow is pleased to announce the delivery of 15 new vehicles to operate out of its’ Kentish Town site. The Agile automatic gearbox 3500kgs Iveco Daily Vans further enhance our existing fleet and are helping us to reduce our carbon footprint by replacing older vehicles with newer, more efficient ones. These new vehicles allow us to increase our delivery capacity improving service for our customers in London & the South East.

Catering butcher Fairfax Meadow hosted a lunch for pub chefs to showcase its Casterbridge West Country grain-fed beef. The event was held at the InterContinental Hotel, London, where executive chef Paul Bates prepared a special menu featuring different cuts of the beef.

Fairfax Meadow launches foodservice beef

Fairfax Meadow is hoping for success with the launch of a new premium range of beef aimed at the foodservice sector

The company hopes its Casterbridge West Country grain-fed beef, which was launched at a lunch in London, will appeal to high-end foodservice operators.

A spokesman for Fairfax Meadow said the product was aiming for a consistent high quality: “Only English beef, sired from traditional breeds and sourced from selected farms in the six counties of south-west England, is used to produce Casterbridge.”

“Animals are selected to our specifications and we have contracts with each of our supplier farmers to ensure that all animals are finished to the required standards.”
