Not only is today St George's Day, but it's also the start of Great British Beef Week. This week is an opportunity to celebrate the excellent beef grazed by farmers on lush pastures across Great Britain.
Last week, some of the Fairfax Meadow team joined AHDB - Agriculture and Horticulture Development Board and beef farmer Anna Blumfield at Deersbrook Farm for an on-farm day. We were treated to a tour of the farm and a presentation that talked about the importance of British farming and the processes and care that go into creating the great British beef that we see in retail and across the foodservice sector.
Martin Eccles gave an excellent butchery demonstration and took time to meet with two of our newest butcher apprentices, Tom and Kayleigh. But in the food industry, tasting is believing, and we enjoyed a fabulous lunch and cookery demonstration from James Peck.
Huge thanks to Karl Pendlebury from AHDB for organising the event and for his ongoing support. Thanks also to Grace Randall for the informative and insightful trends presentation.
Happy Great British Beef Week, everyone!
